Integrated Aquaculture Centre

We have developed an Integrated Aquaculture Centre (IAC) at Bagibari village where he have our Head Office under Kamrup Metro District of Assam.
The features of the centre are –
- Innovative fisheries programme With Database integration
- Training of farmers with hostel facilities for Integrated Aquaculture.
- Laboratory and Internet facilities for fish farmers.
- Issues related to fish pond health card.
- Conceptualization of Aqua tourism.
Brief note on the above features:
1). Innovative fisheries programme With Database integration.
We have developed four innovative fisheries project with the active support of NABARD, Dept. of Fisheries, CIFA and Assam Gramin Vikash Bank. Replacement of Bottom Dweller Fish by Fresh Water Prawn–It was demonstrated under Rural Innovation Fund (RIF) of NABARD with the involvement of 30 farmers from two panchayats of Dimoria Block of Kamrup Metro District of Assam. We started prawn cultivation by replacing bottom dweller fish (Mrigal and Common carp) along with Indian Major Carp. Our beneficiaries utilised the opportunity to substantially increase their income, as prawns fetch much higher prices compared to Mrigal and Common Carp. An advantage of rearing of fresh water prawns was that it reduced silting in the bottom of the pond, a sound environmental spin off.
Kalong-Kapili’s efforts proved that fresh water prawn cultivation was possible in the geo-climatic condition of Assam and it can also be subsequently replicated in other parts of Assam. It opened a new
opportunity for fish farmers to augment their income without making large investment.
This grant model was converted to a business model through Umbrella Programme for Natural Resource Management for the first time in Northeast India and later this model was financed by Assam Gramin Vikash Bank. The model with all relevant data is with our IAC.
2). Training of farmers with hostel facilities for Integrated Aquaculture:
Training Module: Kalong-Kapili has developed a three-day training module for Integrated Aquaculture for the trainees. It includes breeding practices, seed rearing, culture practices (both composite and integrated),disease reduction and marketing method. This is a completely residential programme.
Eligibility: The trainee must have a fish pond or have an interest in fish farming. He or she should have an android mobile. He or she must spend at least three days at the training centre.
Fee: A modest amount as fee will be collected from the trainees.
Infrastructure: There is proper infrastructure at the centre. It includes training hall, hatchery, innovative and integrated models and hostel facilities inside a hygienic complex.
Faculty: We have a good number of faculty members to conduct the training programme.
Certification: Certificates will be provided after successful completion of the training.
Interaction with progressive farmers: Trainees will get opportunities to learn about best practices from successful fish farmers of Bogibari and adjoining areas.
3). Laboratory and internet facilities for fish farmers :
Details of Laboratory: The following kits will be available at our lab – soil testing, water quality testing, ammonia testing, ph measures, oxygen testing, zooplankton testing. Along with disease control measures, medicines, hormone injection, low cost feed making techniques, concentrated feed, brooder feed will be available.
Internet facilities will be available in our centre through which they can gain the knowledge of better marketing and other fish related matters. Selected apps will be given to them for betterment of fish
farming.
4). Issues related to fish pond health card:
We have a plan to develop and promote fish pond health card that will identify the quality of water. This will enable farmers to use necessary interventions to enhance fish production in their own ponds in a scientific manner.
5). Conceptualization of Aqua tourism:
Most people are attracted to clean water and some others to pristine environment. We will have a facility where visitors can appreciate both. We now have the infrastructure and human resource to attract tourists who are on the lookout for rest and recreation.
Visitors will also be able to do angling and enjoy fish based delicacies.
